Where did the summer go? School starts Wednesday, August 10. Please visit our Schedule and Calendar pages for all the info you need to know. Preschool parents, please note school is over at 11:15, not 11:25. All school supplies are provided, so no need to pack any pencils or paper. Also, on the first day of school we're hosting a "Back to School Celebration" in the cafeteria. Meet us after you drop the kid(s) off for pastries and coffee, plus a back to school discussion with Principal Mary Pritchard.

Thank you to everyone who supported Dual Immersion Academy of Salinas' Parent-Teacher Organization (DIAS PTO). We raised more than $600 for our school's PTO, which supports and promotes parent involvement to enhance the school community, supports teachers and provides them with classroom resources where needed, and helps provide extraordinary learning experiences for our students. Back to School: Salinas City expands dual language classes
Salinas City School District investing in expansion of its dual language immersion program Check out this story on thecalifornian.com: http://bit.ly/1RYZr72 The Dual Immersion Academy of Salinas (DIAS) will follow the same district calendar as all of the other thirteen elementary schools.
An on-site Smart Start Before and After School program will be available. The program will offer care for 45 minutes before the start of the school and until 5:30 p.m. after the school day. Fees apply.
For the 2015/16 school year, we will be offering an a.m. session of the Smart Start Spanish Immersion preschool program. Families may sign up for a two, three or five day a week program. Fees apply.
Both breakfast and lunch will be available from the district’s food service program. Stay posted for more information!
DIAS is opening as a “school choice/magnet school” so parents choosing to send their children are asked to provide their own transportation.
The Dual Immersion Academy of Salinas (DIAS) will be opened as a Dual Bilingual Immersion Academy. Dual language programs or two-way bilingual immersion are programs where two groups of students are engaged in second language study for 5-7 years in an effort to develop high levels of bilingualism and bi-literacy.
DIAS will be the fourth school in the district to offer the 90:10 dual immersion model but unique as it is the first school in the district to offer a school-wide dual immersion program. In addition to immersing students in language and literacy, the educational program at DIAS will integrate and emphasize STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. STEAM is an interdisciplinary, cross-curriculum, real-world process of teaching where core subjects are interwoven, not taught in isolation, much like what students will encounter in this world of global diversity. Rigorous, core curriculum is applied through STEAM-focused projects/activities and aligned to board-adopted curriculum, Common Core State Standards, Next Generation State Standards and State Standards for English Language Development. Students will not be required to wear uniforms during the first year, but school spirit clothing will be available for purchase. The school community may elect to adopt the district school uniform policy in the future.
